I picked up some delightful spring turnips and some disappointingly bitter radicchio today at the Putnam farmers' market on my way home from a fun day of filing at my dad's office. I love the farmers' market. I feel the need to buy something from each vendor to show my support for local farmers. Fortunately there are generally only 4 or 5 vendors at our market. I also bought a basil plant (and really wanted cilantro but he's waiting for them to get bigger still) and raspberries and of course locally grown tomatoes. They beckon to me. I could eat them by the bushel.
More importantly, though, I saw a green iguana. On a leash. At the farmers' market. Ah, Putnam. The town that brought us "Crazy Snake Man" now presents "Iguana on a Leash." And speaking of Crazy Snake Man, I saw that guy today too. He hasn't been seen with the snake in years. I heard a rumor that he was told by "authorities" (whoever they are) that he wasn't allowed to walk his snake any more. By walk his snake, I mean walk around with his snake hanging around his neck like a, well, an actual boa, not a feather boa. He used to like to take it to large gatherings at Rotary Park...parades, Fourth of July fireworks. So maybe he was told not to take it out of the house anymore. In all likelihood the snake is dead by now anyway. But he's still referred to by everyone I know (well, OK by me and my brothers) as Crazy Snake Man. And he can be recognized easily by his shirtlessness and long, flowing brown hair. Think Anthony Keidis but a bit dirtier. Today when I saw him at 10:00AM on my way to work and again at 4:00PM on my way home, as though he had spent the entire day walking about town without a shirt, he was wearing shoes and long pants. Which is a step in the right direction. In years past, he shunned shoes entirely and favored cut off jeans. So you really have to try to get a good mental image of this going on...Anthony Keidis, no shirt, no shoes, cut off jeans (quite short), snake around the neck. Can you see it? I hope so, because it's truly a delight! I almost forgot that occasionally, when shoes were required, he sported knee high suede moccasin type boots with fringe. So throw that into the little picture in your mind. CSM has an actual name that I actually know. But it's better that he remain anonymous.
Anyway, I think my whole point here was going to be that sometimes I feel like I'm an eccentric and weird person. And then I see a guy with an iguana on a leash in public.
I did another digital LO. It's another in the "reasons I'm still single" series...
