40 by 40: #12 live music

Goal #12 was to see live music a bunch of times. A couple weeks ago I got a start on that one. I went to see Bon Iver at the PPAC. And despite the fact that the world's most annoying couple was seated directly in front of me and partially blocking my view, the show was amazing. Totally worth being out late on a work night. Here's a crappy picture of Justin Vernon:

Watching this happen, live, at 1:30 in the morning. Granted, it was 1:30 in the morning. But still. The triumph of human ingenuity makes me cry. I'm so proud of nerds!

40 by 40: #19 paint a painting

This one was really fun! I'll probably do more. I'm technically not a good artist. I can't draw or paint anything that actually looks like anything. But I kind of like playing around with shapes and colors. I like the way it looks here. It's filling in the space where my computer used to be. The computer had to be moved to the landing because my office has all of a sudden become a wifi dead zone. It's a little weird having it out there, but I guess it works for now. 

Anyway, the painting was kind of a spur of the moment activity. In the back of my mind, I knew it was on my list, but I wasn't really planning on doing it immediately. Then I was in Michaels and they had canvases for 50% off so I decided to get one, just to have on hand. I started working on it in the middle of the night. Then I couldn't stop until it was finished. I guess it took a couple hours. I think more painting will be in my future. 

Those are pretty much my favorite colors. Lots and lots of colorful squares and rectangles. 

 

40 by 40: #6 go on a picnic

Krippi, Leo, and I had a simple picnic on a riverbank in Vermont a few weekends ago. Sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, olives, blueberries, cherries. And beer. 

It's such a pretty spot. I wish I could remember the name of it. It's up near Burlington. It's just too bad I forgot my bathing suit. 

Such a beautiful summer afternoon. I love it up there. And I think I should have more picnics. 

 

40 by 40: #28a outings with C. Bear

This is one of the items on my list that's most important to me. Outings with my niece, Claire (aka C. Bear). I love spending time with her - it's so much fun watching her experience new things. A few weeks ago, we took her to Roger Williams Park Zoo, in Providence. Apparently, she has recently learned how to say "wow!" and was very impressed by the elephants and giraffes. "Wow! wow! wow!" She's heart-meltingly adorable. 

Her little face is always so pensive. She studies everything. It's my unbiased opinion that she's wicked smaht. 

40 before 40

So, I've got about a year and a half until I turn 40. Recently, I sat down and made a list of 40 things I'd like to do before I turn 40. I've seen many variations on this general theme throughout the interwebs. It took me quite a while to write my list. Some of the items on it will be really hard, others will be really fun. I was going for a good mix of experiences and accomplishments. I made a little mini-album with Cocoa Daisy's July kit, Note To Self, to keep track of my progress. I can insert pages as needed. I'm planning to add pictures, dates, and journaling as I work on these things. Here's my list, in case you're curious...
