For the past couple nights I've been watching Christmas movies and working on some little embroidery projects. Trying to get in the Christmas spirit. I'm a little anxious. I'm not sure exactly why. I think I'm stressed about traveling over Christmas vacation. I'm going to England and I've got packing to do and details to work out. I'm flying over alone and H can't meet me at the airport so I have to take the train to Paddington and find my hotel alone. This is the sort of thing that makes me anxious. Flying, for one. Then finding my way around. If I've never been to a place before and I can't visualize how all the details will work out, I get stressed. Am I control freak? I might be a control freak. I'm sure it will be fine, but it's making it hard for me to feel festive.
So I've been stitching and watching holiday films. Last night I watched Love Actually. That's one I break out almost every year. I think it's really sweet and a little bit of a departure from the typical romantic comedy formula. There are a few spots that make me cry, though. The part when Emma Thompson realizes that Alan Rickman may be cheating on her kills me. I think Emma Thompson just nails that scene. And when Laura Linney gives up a night with the hot guy to be with her mentally ill brother for Christmas. I can't stop the tears when her brother hugs her. Actually, there are quite a few poignant and charming bits in that one. Tonight I watched Christmas Vacation. A little more lighthearted. That one's kind of a family tradition. I think all of my brothers can quote it in its entirety. The strains of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer being played on a tuba will always crack me up. I've still got the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol and It's a Wonderful Life to watch. Those are the Christmas movies I own. And I think I need to add Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas to my collection. I'm really in the mood for the Riverbottom Nightmare Band. Jim Henson ruled at Christmas. I wish he was still in the world.
I did one embroidery project to share over at Cocoa Daisy this weekend and another to give as part of my gift for Holiday Fun this year. I'll take pictures to share tomorrow.
What are your favorite Christmas movies?
